Freedom Bookmark by Melanie G.S. Walby

This beautiful bookmark was specifically created for Dotters Book Club by Melanie Walby. She is a Minneapolis-based artist and graphic designer who grew up in Eau Claire. She came into the shop a few years ago looking for a book and we immediately hit it off. She's warm and funny and passionate and so talented and we're so excited to have these bookmarks available to everyone.

When you purchase this bookmark $2 will be donated to Midwest Mixed, an organization that centers Black, Indigenous, and POC of all skin tones and across the gender and sexuality spectrum who identify as or connect to the experiences of being mixed-race, multiracial, biracial, multiethnic, or as transracial and/or transnational adoptees. She currently (February 1-March 2, 2021) has an exhibit on display in UWEC Foster Gallery called Clear Water. The physical exhibit is open to UWEC students and faculty. The general public has the opportunity to interact with Melanie's work virtually through an Artist Talk and Musical Performance on Thursday, February 18 at 7:30pm. Tickets are free but do need to be reserved.
